How do I generate a Multibanco reference?
Through the Lusopay portal, the API, an online store plugin/module or software integrated with our payment system — in a few seconds.
Where can my customer pay?
At any Multibanco ATM, homebanking or bank app, at any time of day.
How do I know the payment was made?
You're notified automatically by email and/or webhook, as soon as the payment is confirmed.
Do references have an expiry date?
It depends. If you use file-type Multibanco references, yes — you can set a start and end date for the payment to be made. If you use check-digit references, no — these are always payable.
When do I receive the money?
As a rule, the amount is settled to your bank account on the day Lusopay receives the funds — usually the first business day after payment. For Multibanco references, the day doesn't end at midnight, but at 8 PM. So references paid after 8 PM are considered paid the next day, delaying the transfer by one day.
Practical examples:
Example 1 - a payment at 3 PM on Monday is received by Lusopay on Tuesday. That same day, Lusopay sends an immediate transfer to your bank account, so you'll have the funds on Tuesday.
Example 2 - a payment at 8:01 PM on Monday is received by Lusopay on Wednesday. That same day, Lusopay sends an immediate transfer to your bank account, so you'll have the funds on Wednesday.
Are there joining or monthly fees?
As a rule, no. You only pay for each payment actually received.
However, for software that uses Multibanco reference package reservations (e.g. Gecond, Gesar), package activation fees may apply.
If you request commercial information and tell us which software you use, we'll let you know whether activation fees apply.
